spot on for me, AR correct to flag , ref correct to award pk
It was nearly the same as that Chelsea womens offside picture we had during the week

should have also been a card to Reading though I think....

Except that the player who was in offside position wasn't fouled.

It was the player making the pass.

The difference to the A&H picture/question is that in that question, the player fouled is the one in offside position.

2 minutes though - everything looked confused, there really needs to be more clarity about what is being checked. Players crowding the ref too, just looks messy.

Right decision got to though to be fair. Any hint of Lukaku (in an offside position) interfering with the player who fouled Mata for the penalty?

Ok I never said it was a carbon copy ! Sorry factual police, I will stand down from the witness booth

I dont have the sound on. Should the ref have gone for a look himself?

VARSE always looks a mess
Sean Dyche bewildered in corresponding Burnley game

Nothing new from me, but i'd rather have the wrong decision than the added pantomime to an already calamitous professional game

Hackett was criticising he FA for using pitch side monitors with VAR last season as they should “trust the 4th officials”.
Now he’s criticising the FA for not using them.

Sort him out @Sheffields Finest he’s one of your lot!

He was certainly born locally, I don't think he's too well thought of, not many ex-referees are I suppose!!

I'm a Reading fan (so probably biased)

but did wonder if this stopped our FB being able to tackle from a wider angle thus not taking Mata's legs. IMO could have been given as offside for interference but would have been harsh.

Yeah I agree - think there’s certainly a case for it in the laws but no one would have expected it and it’s semi clutching at straws

Just thinking about this VAR thing a bit more
I'd assert that what's fundamentally wrong with VAR(se), is that it exacerbates a culture of not accepting the official's decision. Inevitably, the 'right' decision will be reached more frequently, but this comes at a high price. Of all the downsides, the loss of spontaneity is my biggest concern (when is a goal a goal?), followed closely by the dreadful player behaviour (as if it could get any worse) the process breeds. Back to my original point, it's hard to take when officials make mistakes, but this despair is magnified ten-fold, when a room full of VARs squabble their way to bad outcome
A culture of demanding the right decision is entirely consistent with the dissent it breeds

Even yesterdays Utd one ( I had no sound) was attributed to Jon Moss but there must have been input from the VAAR (sorry cant recall who he/she was)
What on earth happens if the 2 guys in the truck don't agree! Do we take the VAAR as the lead because its an offside up for debate and ignore him for anything else????? That's also not consistent with how we approach things on the park

I was under the impression that the role of the AVAR was just to watch the live action while the VAR is conducting the review and to communicate to broadcasters, rather than have any input into decision making?
