Punishment fits the crime

The Referee Store
I think there needs to be a wider reform on drugs laws in society, never mind in sports.

The scenarios we've been seeing with marijuana over the recent years is a good example of that, but I think politically governments have been slow to adjust their stance.

On the sporting scene though, I do think it is in the best interests of sport that you're not under the influence of either performance enhancing *or* recreational drugs. For safety reasons, never mind anything else.

In some sense I think it should be looked at more harshly. These guys are idolised by many children and young and impressible players in their home countries. What sort of an example are they setting. If our sport can do something about it, why not.

accidentally ingested cocaine in a tea
I've heard (and used) some bad excuses in my time, but this takes the biscuit!

If you're gonna take drugs, deal with the fact that if you get caught, you're gonna be suspended for a good long while. A better way to avoid this would be to not take the drugs in the first place.

As above, whether the drug enhances performance or not football players (and many other sports people) are hero’s and idolised by many, especially children.

They should be setting an example, it’s not hard to avoid sticking Columbia’s marching powered up your nose. It’s not like he failed because he ate a poppy seed cake, or because of some prescribed medication that gave a false positive.

He knew what he was doing, and he knew the risks.

heard about this a while back, interesting case & not the first especially in South America.

Silly boy even if his story is true which I don’t totally disbelieve as there are many forms of Charlie in traditional everyday teas drinks and foods in South America.

But like you say with a World Cup coming up you need to be whiter than white :D

I'm always a little amused by how many sports people fail drugs test then immediately have an explanation as to how the accidentally ingested it. The good old nasal decongestant used to be a favourite.

How about referees I bet there has been a few at grass roots level & beyond under the influence of one substance or another...

Any of you guys on here been breath tested or asked to run in a straight line before a game? I’m sure you’d all pass with flying colours :p

Was recently on the line on an WSL2 game. Was a little taken aback to see the doping team waiting in te trunnel at the end of the match but they didn't show any interest in getting a sample from me! Given that it was about 25 degrees that day, that was probably a good thing!!

Don't think this guy would have passed a straight line test nor manage to pass a breath test ...
