There's always something that hasn't happened before

AR on fairly quiet U23 match last night.

Ref said he was adding on 3 mins - away side winning 2-0. Looked at my watch it was 47' 55 secs - challenge goes flying in (far side of the field from me) it was an 'orange', followed by mass con - no punches but all 22 players and benches involved. Yellow for the challenge and two other yellows for 'Adopting an aggressive attitude'.

No further incident in the few seconds after we start again, but at the end of the match player who made the challenge came up to us to shake hands and said 'I'm a referee and I'd have sent myself off for that'

He probably had planned a holiday and the the coach didn't want him to go. Deliberate last minute sanction is the oldest trick in the book. Some players het yellow carded to get an auto one week ban for accumulated yellows.

Seemed a nice lad - had a chat in the club house afterwards - I told him to give up the playing and concentrate on his refereeing!
