Manager demanded I speak to him

As far as I'm concerned it wasn't a dirty game. Away team were 5-1 down with 9 minutes left to play when home team captain nudged the keeper and I blew for a foul. I had their players demanding a card and at his point a home team player did something stupid to take the ball away from the...

    Liverpool Sheffield

Surprised no one has mentioned this. So surely a penalty for Sheffield with that push. Surely a foul that led to liverpool Second goal? He came in from behind and wrapped his legs around the players leg.

    JPL cup game

Just been handed a game (a recommendation from another team for a girls u15 cup game. They sound very serious. Wanted my qualifications etc…..I’m only level 7, but I assume I’m ok to ref it? It’s 4 quarters they play. How long a gap between quarters?

    Manager abuse

So at what point do you deal with managers and is it a red or yellow card? I referee a lot of u18 games and majority of the time the coaches are great. Sure you get the odd “ref!!! That’s a foul or never a foul”. that said, I had one where apart from every single decision being questioned and...

Girls football handball to protect chest

What’s the rule on this? I was reffing an u18 match on Saturday and one girl kept putting her arms across her chest when the ball is kicked at her. Wasn’t even at pace. I warned her and eventually she did it in the box and I gave a penalty. I wonder what the actual rule is on this as men’s...

    Arsenal Va Spurs

Main thoughts are ref did well, but I think was a bit lenient with the cards at the start of the match with some crunching tackles going in. Question about the handball penalty. What’s the difference here compared to the United one which wasn’t given? Also if it is given then surely is DOGSO...

    Everton Vs Arsenal

So while watching I have to agree it’s offside for the martineli goal. Where I’m not sure is it came off an Everton player. Was it a deliberate play for the ball? What’s the actual rule on this?

    Goal keeper drop kick

Is blocking a goal keeper from taking a drop kick a bookable offence now? I know you’re not allowed to even attempt to get in the way of a drop kick. (Don’t agree with the rule, but it’s the rule!)

    League assigned me double header

So I’ve been assigned a double header for the cup rounds this weekend. Lovely. Im happy with that. Just had an email from one of the team coaches saying they’ve already arranged a ref for the match. League rules state that you cannot refuse an appointed referee and install your own ref. Does...

    Match brawl

So a game which really wasn’t nasty in any way turned sour very quickly. Away team had. 2-0 lead (very lucky goals and we’re camped in their own half the entire game) Anyway. Home team score to make it 2-1 with 20 mins to go. Obviously they want a quick kick off, but away player holds onto the...

    U18 drinks break

I’m not sure if I did something wrong today. It was a really hot day. Pre season friendly. U18 game in glorious sunshine. Half way through second half. I noticed the players looking drenched in sweat and overheard them talking to each other how thirsty they are. I don’t know of any rules...

    Not my best game

So I’ve had the privilege of reffing u18 girls finals and u16 boys final over here in Herts. Girls final. No issue. 1 card for kicking the ball away, but otherwise a lovely afternoon. So nice to each other. Boys final was an oh boy! I state that this wasn’t my best day ended up handing out...

    Abused as assistant

I was a voluntary assistant today and ran the line for my sons u18 team. Level 5 ref in the middle. Thought he handled the game well when it flared up a bit. I would have carded the 2 coaches who came onto the pitch during the incident, but that’s pretty much the only thing I disagreed with...

    Older new ref

After seeing a post by a new ref here who is doing well, I was wondering if it’s worth me going for promotion next season. I only ref u18 and u16 games so just wonder if there is any point other than a bit of pride? I’m 47 and I do this to help grass routes, and keep fit. I really enjoy it...

    What’s the guidelines?

U18 and u16 games struggle for referees. A lot of managers don’t bother getting one and referee the matches themselves which causes a lot of issues. If a ref is on site for whatever reason and offers to ref the match, do they have to use said ref or can they just insist on a coach doing it?

    Game abandoned

I was assistant ref on an u18 match. Game was called off due to the thuggish behaviour of the away team. I reffed them last week and they were horrible. I dished out 4 cards for dissent and in hindsight I was too soft in them. Anyway, Sundays ref was a very experienced referee and they started...

    Ended badly

So today I reffed an u16 match. I actually thought I had a very decent game, but alas in injury time it became a mess and it wasn’t even because of a decision I made! Although the away side was sure I was biased because of such a silly incident. Home team player tackles an away player and...

    Fines for u/18 u/16 games

What’s people view on the fine system for yellow card and red cards? If I give 2 yellows to a player, his parents have to cough up £62 which is a lot of money. I’ve reffed games where every car in the car park was a Range Rover and literally don’t care how much the parents get fined, but I’ve...

    EJA League

My mates kid just moved to an EJA league u16 team. He asked if I can ref games and I’m just wondering if it’s something I am allowed to do at level 7? I believe I can, but thought someone here would know.

    Swearing u18 games

I mainly ref under 18 games and would like some advice on swearing. Before each game, I tell both managers and players that I won’t tolerate swearing at any official. I generally shout out language if I think swearing is getting out of hand, but on occasion I get managers using very...
