    When is he offside

Had a game today when the manager said to me, he can’t be offside he hasn’t touched the ball. My reading of the law is that if a player attempts to approach/chase after or play the ball in an offside position, it’s offside. Am I correct?

    Caution or not…?

Player jumps into a tackle with force, but cleanly takes the ball before the man. Is this considered a caution because he’s being reckless and out of control with the jump tackle? Or is this just a robust tackle because he cleanly retrieved the ball and play carry’s on? Does the action of...

    Goalkeeper dissent

Lol!!! Nice try fella… If you had his name from the first card, I would have just called him by that and flashed the card as he turned round. Alternatively, you could call over the captain the bring him to you.

    Different colour referee kit

For what it’s worth, I’ve recently completed the FA referee course, and was told categorically that Grassroots officials are to wear all black, and the team on a dark/black shirt need to wear the bibs/change not the FAMOA.We were advised never to wear bibs as this undermines the authority of the...

    Game called off at halftime

Hi - You have the authority to call off the game if you feel it would endanger the players, so you did the right thing... Its your final decision as the Match Official. As a note, you do not need to consult with the managers on such matter, because as you say, they would always want to play on...

Thank you... So much to understand around this element but this makes sense. So if I summarise: If youre not already there, then its a go, but if you are' it's a wall.

To wall or not to wall... That is the question!!

Hi all Something I am trying to understand from more experienced referees is when to use a wall and allow quick free-kicks. Mainly: When do you step and mark out a wall I've been ding this as standard, but I'm bound to be asked to take a quick one soon. Is a wall only required when the...

    Uncontested Drop Ball Rule

Can someone clarify for me, whether a player can dribble from an uncontested drop ball? Does it have to be played like a free-kick where it needs to touches by someone else before they can play it again? Thanks

    Challenge after shot

Thanks - So should a Penalty be given if a challenge is marginally late after the player has taken a shot/or crossed it to a team mate?

    Two finger guesture

I’ve just refereed an U14 v U13 Pre-Season game, and the U13s won 9-0. One of the U14 players made a strong challenge that I called up as reckless and asked the player to come over to me, so I could isolate him for a chat and yellow card. He refused to walk over, so I warned him that I could...
