Forget delaying it anyway, an AR that gets to be at a world cup is an AR that should be getting that clear offside right with no hesitation.

This offside call was no where near tight. Flag should have been up immidiately

I agree. He took the delay instruction too far in that case. I suspect it will be used by FIFA as an example of what they don't want.

Referee has impressed me so far, made it extremely clear he'd seen the touch for the tackle in the box, no hesitation.

Am sorry, I would sprinkle rose petals on the ground for Mark Clattenburg but he just classed the pk appeal as initiated contact, which, for me, is defined by, "pretending to be fouled", which in turn, esp in the pen box, has to be a caution??

am lost already :(

He confused the studio with that remark too, Ian Wright correctly asked, isn't that a dive? (simulation)

I get the feeling that the UK press wants controversy and they're going to dig into every little non-controversial decision to create the illusion that VAR system failed.

Yes, for the top ref that he is, he should be leaving everyone in no doubt as to whats went on and why

I think Chris Foy confused everyone on Bt Sport during the season too?

if the very top guys cant make it clear to someone like me who likes to think I have a rough understanding of whats going on, then what chance does the man on the street have of getting it?

You can be a top referee but it doesn't make you a good communicator or a good pundit on TV. If you try to talk in the language of a referee, then you'll come across very poorly on TV.

He is the head of refs in Saudi?
I would think he would have excellent communicatin skills?

He is the head of refs in Saudi? As Foy was in America?
I would think both have excellent communicatin skills?

I'm sure he can communicate with referees just fine. He can tell a pro referee "the action of the defender here was not a deliberate play and therefore when the ball goes to the attacker who was in an offside position he's interfering with play".

Every ref knows exactly what he means. You can't say that sentence on TV though.

Agreed. But if he is telling x million viewers its initiated contact, Then, as Wright showed, a lot of puzzled punters will be asking where the yc was?

Webb has done a much better job on TV here in the US when he's been asked to explain certain decisions in MLS.
