Can't I replace the goalkeeper with one of the players on the field?

The Referee Store
i presume it means substitute? surely you are allowed to simply swap your keeper for another outfield player whenever you like?

could be wrong mind!

It can't do, otherwise the famous Cillessen-Krul substitution couldn't have happened, as Cillessen wasn't injured or ill, unless the Laws have changed in the meantime.

Hi
A goalkeeper can be replaced at any time with an outfield player provided it is done at a stoppage with the referee informed. That include Kicks from the Penalty Mark
A goalkeeper can be substituted in Kicks from the Penalty Mark provided that the GK cannot continue and the team has an available substitution left that it can use. If it has used all its subs then an outfield player goes in goal and the opponents reduce by one to equate.

provided that the GK cannot continue and the team has an available substitution left that it can use.
And of course this does not apply to a player off the field of play who has been excluded from the list of kick takers to equalise numbers with opponents.

The point of the OP question was, why use the word 'replace' to mislead everyone while there is a perfectly good word that is defined and everyone is familiar with, 'substitute'? That is in the OP Q&A or Law 10.
