Unafilliated teams

I was recently asked by a schools coach to referee a sixth form schools match in a league that I can view on the internet.

Having had some disciplinary issues during the match - mass con with one red and two yellows, I went on to WGS to process the cards, only to find that neither team was shown in the league drop down.
So, I asked my CFA who have advised that both teams are unaffiliated and therefore I cannot record the cards. The CFA are saying that I should not have accepted the match, but I'm concerned that schools are being allowed to play at all if they are not affiliated - and don't really understand why they wouldn't be?

Apart from not taking these matches in future, is there anything else I can do? Surely the CFA should be ensuring that all teams in this league are affiliated?

Main learning point is to always check in advance that the teams and competition are registered.
The English Schools Football Association run most of these competitions and may be able to help.
