I had two interesting games this weekend...
Saturday. The ball was pumped down the line, few players protested it went out, I look to the assistant (not neutral) said to me it stayed in.. play continues. You can imagine what happened next... the ball is crossed into the box and headed in (good header to be fair), I jog to the halfway line and note the goal, I then get surrounded by defending players saying it went off, I order them away and advise the assistant advised it was not out. I turn around, and a player of the team which scored in an aggressive manner is trying to get to another player. I have not seen what ignited this but the player adopting the aggressive attitude, so straight away he is going to be cautioned. As I am calling this player over, a man from the side line runs 40 yards towards me as the confrontation between players continues. I am thinking what is happening here! I didn't know what to expect. He says to me, I am the team manager, I say to him, I don't care who you are, leave the FOP NOW! I look over, and see supporters on the field of play, they likewise leave the FOP. Luckily he was not aggressive, I believe he thought he was doing good by trying to get involved to calm matters.
I caution the player as above, however have submitted a misconduct report on the basis the manager / spectators entering the FOP without my permission.
Sunday. The game starts OK. I see some off the ball pushing / pulling. In the next break of play I call both players over and clearly advise no more. The away side lead 2-1. In the 43rd minute, the home team break, I follow play, I turn around, and two players of the same team, one of which is the player I had a word with earlier are pushing / shoving each other, I have no idea what has ignited this. I blow my whistle thinking this will catch their attention so they will stop, this doesn't work. Anyway, it escalates very quickly, punches thrown by each to the face of each other, full blown fighting. One player removes shirt in the fight (not sure why?), I am continually blowing my whistle (Fox 40 Sonic Blast - this is loud) still not working! Now all players of the same side involved in the brawl, some trying to pull apart, some fighting, I see another one run in and punch another and it continues off the pitch. 5 minutes pass, 5 minutes of fighting. I manage to get one shirt number, the other, I could not as he removed it before I could note the number. Enough is enough, I blow my whistle, match abandoned!
It was disgusting behaviour by this side and their were children on the side line watching, such a bad example to set.
Another misconduct report lodged with the County FA!
Hopefully next week is less eventful!
