Thoughts on Caicedo & Kulusevski challenges?
This perspective is exactly why we do t see more reds. And not seeing reds is why players feel safe engaging in risky play. and why when it goes too far, it is the ref, not the miscreant, who gets blamed for ruin8ng the spectacle. That tsaid, I'm kind of glad neither were red as it might have spoiled what was a great game (unless you are a Spurs fan I guess).
Agree with everything except your last paragraph. For me, a fully justified red card not being given should never be excused on the basis that it might ruin the game.I can see why the Caicedo one wasn't sent for review, definitely caught him on the shin but force was fairly low, wasn't a tackle as such and rather more of a missed attempt at kicking the ball. He certainly couldn't have complained had he seen red, but I can just about understand why he didn't.
Can't even begin to back the Kulusevski one though, and if they really did look at it and say it was accidental then I'm afraid that calls their professional ability into serious doubt. To use a football phrase, he's done him there, there'd been niggle all through the game and the only reason his elbow was there to make contact with the head was because he wanted to hurt Lavia. There's an argument to even say it was VC rather then SFP, he's just deliberately slammed his elbow into an opponent's head. I know the dark arts from my playing days, and that was 100% intentional, be intrigued to see how Howard Webb explains this one.
That said, I'm kind of glad neither were red as it might have spoiled what was a great game (unless you are a Spurs fan I guess).
the inability to say it as it is (and how everyone else sees it) fascinates meDermot Gallagher supported the VAR for not recommending a review for VC
Is it any surprise the football community holds us in such low regard? I can't watch that half hour segment on Sky Sports News, but I also can't avoid it when clips are shown on repeat
Exactly, he has elbowed an opponent for the sole purpose of elbowing an opponentthe inability to say it as it is (and how everyone else sees it) fascinates me
You misunderstand me, I Know it should have been a red card, but purely for my own personal enjoyment I'm glad it wasn't.Agree with everything except your last paragraph. For me, a fully justified red card not being given should never be excused on the basis that it might ruin the game.
