In the 23rd minute the referee awarded MC a free kick on the halfway line. They took it quickly some ten yards further back than the position of the foul and the referee put his arms out to signal advantage!!!!
Pretty sure this is completely unjustifiable in law.

It sounds like it, but if it gets the game going again quickly then I don't see a problem with it. It is a regular occurrence at academy football, sometimes they can be 20/30 yards behind where it should've been, I almost always let them just play it.
