Snoods

One junior and one adult game this weekend have involved players coming onto the pitch wearing snoods. They were quite disappointed to be asked to remove them. Is this a common occurrence?

I've seen it on the development league and it was permitted, so long as the player didn't pull it over his jaw/lower face.

Thinking about it, I seem to remember Man City players turning up in some. However, this to me is an equipment issue as a sharp pull on the snood in the box can have his head off. Can't believe a development league allows it. Checked with the league this player was in and the refs sec agrees not to allow them.

They aren't part of the standard equipment and there's no way you can class them as safe protective equipment.

As the link provided by @Sheffields Finest clearly says, they were banned because they're dangerous. If a player is sprinting past another at speed and the opponent grabs the snood it would be be like being "clothes-lined."

I think it was Tevez who made them fashionable. It took a couple of years before FIFA outlawed them.
