I know it's not in the laws of the game but does anyone think that introducing a Sin Bin type system like in small sided football to bigger formats of the game would actually be an effective tool to control players?

Thought if throw it out there

I'm not adverse to the ideas as such, but do agree with Supermonkey - I've plenty to mentally keep track of rather than then having a bench harranguing me because their guy has been on the sides for 5 mins and 1 second or whatever).

The disciplinary sanctions are very well-known, very clear and we're usually consistent (individually, and as a wider collective of referees at each level).

It does seem somewhat of a shirk for a referee who doesn't want to have to "deal with a caution".

WE are lucky in that it is pretty well understood by the teams in the juniors over here. Blow the foul, quick word with the player and signal his coach. Coach subs him off and you say 'give him 5' or '10' or whatever ou think it deserves. Generally, you don't need to keep track, as the coaches are pretty OK with the way it is and tend to follow it pretty well. With RoRo subs it's easy to do, the eight year old learns that if he acts in an inappropriate way he will have to leave the field.

In theory, after I've spoken to him, the coach and/or a parent will give the rollicking, and he gets the chance to come back on and make amends.
