Referee Mentor

The Referee Store
Just being there helps.

There is no magic formula for this, offer advice before, at half time and after full time.

If coaches or parents start getting too vocal about the referee, go and stand next to them. Support the referee and remember you are there as a FA official, so if they do say anything too bad, you have the power to report them to the FA.

It is just help the young lad ..

If you are mentoring someone with little experience (which is very likely), keep your advise to basics and key incidents. Too many things or too advanced advice would only get them confused. I generally conclude my advice with two or three things he/she should take away to his/her next game to improve on. The two most common ones are whistle tone and proximity to play for very new referees. General positioning advice comes after 10-15 games.
