The Ref Stop

Quick free kick...

The Ref Stop
1) You don't allow a QFK when the player is down injured
2) You don't allow a QFK when you're interfering with the scenario by standing in front of a mass of defenders at the kick talking to them

Poor application of the law there.

It appears I'm the only one with no problem with this.
Yes match control is going to suffer big time but why should the fouled against team suffer?
Plus all I see is a player sitting on the deck, hardly looks injured. Even if he was it's his own team who took it quick.
Defenders might not crowd the ref next time.
I certainly can't see an error in law as Bloodbeard says.

So would you ever do that?

So easy to manage. Guy runs off with the ball. Ref blows whistle. Probably everyone calms down, but if some attackers say, what ref? we wanted a quick one, ref says, yeah boys, I know, but I'd already said "on the whistle, did ya not hear me? You guys heard me, right?" And defenders nod and ref says, sorry, I'll say it louder next time, and they take it properly.

Then again...

Does seeing the whole incident change things for anyone? Not exactly injured, is he? ;-)

Goal, by the way, was allowed to stand. It was an equaliser with six minutes to play. Game finished 1-1.

Here's Graham Poll's view.

I don't believe it's an error in law as such, merely in application. If the referee is standing there talking to the defenders, then he's already interfered with the kick IMO. I suppose it might make a difference if the ref was already there and the defenders ran up to him, or if the referee ran to the mark. Also, I think there's a certain implied aspect of the laws that if a player is down injured, the FK isn't going ahead.
