The Ref Stop
It's a good example of higher level referees feeling (more) empowered to take strong action against player behaviour when it is more visual and therefore clearer to everyone. It might have been the words used but the referee's body language suggests that the red card was for the overt gesturing from the player that he found Insulting or Offensive.

I don't think it's just dissent. I think the gestures of the player in line with what he may or may not have said are designed to demonstrate to everyone that the referee is 'thick in the head' or similar.
I think cautioning for dissent is probably easier, but I don't think OFFINABUS is incorrect.

Agree, I was expecting dissent but support offinabus.

I think dissent is the obvious decision, but depending on the words used along with the action offinabus can also be supported.

Player tries the classic I was saying something else trick (I think he is trying to say he was saying the defender hit him in the head).

These examples are great for the game, it shows our levels that these comments and actions are unacceptable and not welcome in the game

It will be interesring to see if the player appeals and if so how much support will the referee get from UEFA.

Yeah I've just seen Reubyn Ricardo's from Saturday... Caution for dissent, followed up with immediate red card for OFFINABUS (presumably).

Don't think you can appeal in UEFA competitions. Even in England you can't appeal OFFINABUS, and we love an appeal.

Pretty sure that's it, he's telling him he's not right in the head. I think he then also says something as the referee seems to go for his top pocket but then changes his mind and pulls the red out.
