Level 7 Referee
I have been qualified since September and am now a level 7 referee.

I do u7s all the way to mens games on the weekends.
I run the line in a mens league which is quite high up and have enjoyed that too.

However I want to work my way up and really become a professional referee.
(I am a PE teacher full time and love my job but would love to be a professional referee)

Is it too early to apply for Promotion which expires at the end of this month?

I am nervous when it comes to being assessed so Im worried the promotion will put me off wanting to be a referee.

I have been doing alot of older age groups from U15s to mens games but have not been able to do the mens games cos the last 2 mens games I have had have been cancelled due to the weather.

I have done 3 under 18 games in the last month and have thoroughly enjoyed them.

Should I go onto the promotion scheme or not?

Only you know the answer to that question, Robin

I would have argued that you have nothing to lose had you not mentioned your nervousness where being assessed is concerned and the possibility of being put off wanting to be a referee

However, you also mention wanting to be a professional referee....and you're no spring chicken as it is ;)

toss a coin, heads you do, tails you don't. gauge your emotions as soon as you know the outcome - then you'll know what to do

Hi Robin,
I thought about that in my first season, but did mostly youth boys/girls for the first season & now youth & open age in this season (2nd), I'm going for 7 to 6 starting in Mar.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

Many counties (including mine) require you to have completed a full season before you're eligible to apply .. so get in touch with your county before torturing yourself as you may not have a decision to make for a while!

Russell is correct, very few Counties will allow you to apply until you have completed your first season and 20 adult matches. When the time comes I would say go for it, have confidence in yourself, referee the game they way you always do regardless of who is watching from the sidelines. You are enjoying it and that's the main thing so carry on enjoying it!!! Good luck in your future promotions.
