Instinctive is certainly the wrong word. Sounds more like red mist! I'm sure I wouldn't be too pleased with someone who spat at me but physical violence is not the way to solve it. 6 match ban for the one who spat (as per the new FA discipline regulations) and a fair bit longer for the one who punched an opposition player. Both of them should be ashamed of themselves.

Spitting on someone is disgusting. However, it does not mean you get to punch someone in the face from behind. It's simply a cowardly way to react and let's hope he feels the repercussions of his actions both through a sine die ban and whatever the criminal justice system feel is warranted.
