Here's a senecio:

Player A (defender) lofts the ball forward from penalty box. Player B (striker) is in opposition half and offside when ball kicked. Player B makes a positive run towards the ball but PLAYER 1 (defender) picks up the ball in PLAYER B half.
Player 1 then got the ball and passed it to a teammate.

As Player B made a positive run towards the ball is he offside. The problem being the ball was picked up in he own half.

A little confused. .. are Players A & B say red team and Player 1 say blue team?

If so, play on, the other team have the advantage from intercepting the ball and passing to a team mate.
If Player 1 picked the ball up but then was tackled by player B then yes it would be an offside offence.

Did the offside player become involved in active play by (a) playing the ball, (b) deceiving an opponent, or (c) gaining an advantage from being in an offside position?

In my opinion, you need to assess how likely is the attacker to get to the ball and is it going to create a potential DOGSO situation. From what you have described, neither was likely here, so you use the wait and see method, and keep you flag down.
