Offensive Remarks

Hi guys,

Refereed a Sunday league match this morning, i gave a free kick for a silly push against yellows.

As the "offender" walked away, he said to me "you oughta get to the gym"

i'm a rather large 6'2, 22 stone guy so yes i am fat.

I issued him with a yellow card as i have decided i am not going to allow anyone to make comments about my weight, i have played for 20 years as a goal keeper and every week i got called a fat c*** at least 6 times a game, and nothing was ever done about.

despite my size i'm relatively fit and CAN and DO keep up with play.

was i right in issuing a yellow??
As he walked away he then said "yeah you should go to gym".
Which i ignored on this occasion.

Thoughts?
I've put it down as a C2 dissent by words or actions

Thanks

personally you might have put it down a C1 for USB. as decent is normally arguing with your decisions.

what and use UB Unspecified behaviour or AA aggressive attitude??

What would you have done ?
Carded or ignored?

Just wandered what peoples thought's on my decision to card were?
yeah i should of and could of ignored it, but why should i have to?

I think USB for unsporting comment was correct. It's not technically a dissent offence as he wasn't disageeing with, or arguing with your decision (although that may have happened first).

It honestly went through my mind about a 2nd YC, but wasnt sure if i was right by showing the first,as this was only my 4th game so hung back on the 2nd YC, and it was the 91st minute and i was blowing up in 1 minute.

Don't cause more issues than you need, don't go looking for problems, they'll come looking for you!

No you shouldn't have to put up with that. Yellow seems the right decision however, I could understand if you did issue a second yellow. No one should say that to you. UB for me too.

I would say it falls under dissent by word as he implied you were not up with play. If it was an offensive comment (which it is i guess) it also falls under a straight red OFFINABUS which would be harsh.

He is lucky you didn't go with a second yellow. A little tip, if you get comments call the captain over also. If you get further comments with a captain present, then so be it, 3 card trick, off you go. Then the captain can have no complaints.

People might say harsh to 2nd yellow, but he said the exact same thing. If you had sent him off, so be it. Only an idiot says exactly what he said to earn him a yellow card.

dissent for me also, but that's your call entirely. Well done. I am good friends with an overweight official who as well as being a very pleasant chap, is an excellent referee, more than capable of being up with play, keeping good positions and he is well respected on the leagues I do both by colleagues and players. He has often been advised that if he did lose a bit that he should be reffing a lot higher up, but he simply has no desire to lose weight or go any higher than L6. I guess its something you are used to, but shouldn't be putting up with from cheeky players who are using that as an excuse for their own poor play. Good for you for cautioning him.

This was the captain who said it!!!
Gives you no hope really does it!!!

That would have been a captain having an early bath. Set a good example or I will make an example out if you!

Well done on how you dealt with it, probably not enough to warrant a red for OFFINABUS, but certainly dissent. Having said that, you would've been well within your rights to issue a second caution. He'd only have had himself to blame!
