for me that merely proves the referee was mistaken as to how close the other defender is, its even possible the ref cant see him at all.

Not an obvious goal scoring opportunity for me, enough doubt with the closest defender to the right, the video shows he slows and stops chasing when his team mate fouls.
That said, I also don't think it's clearly and Obviously wrong, it's my own opinion that says no and I think this is at the very least sellable if not exactly correct.

My sense is that it may be a much more expected red in France than it would be in the UK or the US
Nice did not expect it!
I wonder if he went with SFP, on the basis there is zero attempt to play the ball? I did say on topics on this site that they are much hotter on this in Europe than in the UK, if a player takes an opponent out with no attempt to play the ball they often go red in the likes of France and Spain.

I heard elsewhere that the French powers that be agreed with the DOGSO send off, but not the other.
It's the whole argument that there is excessive force though, on the basis that if you aren't attempting to play the ball any force is excessive.
