It’s not criteria that must be met. It’s considerations that must be considered. Subtle but important difference. In this case, you can consider that the ball is not going directly towards goal, but still decide it’s an OGSO because of the lack of a GK to use their hands to save the subsequent shot from a fairly tight angle.
 
Looks red to me. The “covering defender” is essentially the GK in a normal scenario. Only real possibility is the R believed it had been pushed too wide so the attacker wouldn’t get it I. A goal scoring spot. But I think it should be red.

Laws were clarified to say 'general' direction and 'overall' movement, to specifically make sure goalkeepers being rounded by players don't escape punishment.

Ok, ive used the wrong word (criteria instead of consideration). It was late in the day and beig honest, id had a really crap day.

But my point still remains.
His touch took him away from goal with a defender now back on the line.
His next touch would have likely been more of a control touch than a shot by which time the keeper would likely have got up and chased back enough to be able to make a dive and another defender was just in/reaching the area too.

Excuse a bit of sarcasm tone in the post.

So this is where most likely his next touch would be. As a pro player, would you kick the ball into an yard wide empty goal from a very open angle (even with non-favorite foot) or would you take a touch or two for other defenders to arrive?

On a more generic note, the convention is that the offending player/keeper is taken out of equation for DOGSO considerations. Even so, given his direction of movement, I very much doubt the keeper had any chances of recovering in time to get involved even after two more touches.

But youve got the benefit of this replay and side on view.
When youre in the centre and effectively behind play, even if curving your run, you dont have this viewpoint and only one look at it.

VAR would likely bail you out in the PL.
But without VAR, youve got to go on gut. And my initial reaction here would be that not all of DOGSO is met.

I can totally see your point that a lone referee with one view might come to the initial conclusion that the ball going wide could be an issue.

However, I’d recommend starting from the general perspective that, if it is the GK committing the offence and the attacker is going to get control of the ball, it is highly likely to be an OGSO because of the absence between the sticks of the player with gloves on :)

The former = Its a exceptional opportunity to score. And with a touch its still an exceptional opportunity. If there is a value on that chance, its a very high one.

Really tough one. Great example of how the laws cannot cover every scenario. The defender might have some kind of impact but a good left foot and it’s an open goal. The yellow/red hinges on context for me. I don’t know the match score/temperament. But I can see the GK makes the most blatant “professional foul” that the DOGSO law is designed to address. That is not in the laws - and my observer hat is happy with yc or rc - but OMG he deserves red!

I am an ex semi pro, and you were getting an answer. If you can get past the Keeper, and the balls still in the box, angles not so tight and there is an open goal the chance is a bloody good one on the swinger, or not. That's semi pro. Conway is championship level, if the keeper doesn't take him out its a great opportunity for him to score.
