Late call up

At Leeds vs Bournemouth yesterday but we'll not talk about the game but the officials. Tony Harrington in the middle, Michael Salisbury announced as FO supported by 2 ARs. Game starts and being the referee geek that I am, despite leaving the game 2 years ago, I note that Michael is junior AR and there is no FO. 8-10 minutes into the game, Rob Atkin turns up and starts warming up. On 11 minutes he takes over from Michael and we have a full team in place. This all happened without anyone knowing and its a testament to the professionalism of the whole team for dealing quickly and quietly with the situation.

Thought Tony had a brilliant game, absolutely spot on with several major decisions. Hope he enjoyed it as much as I did (at the final whistle). I know Rob did as I had an online chat with him afterwards.

Seems that Richard West was injured in the warmup. The Premier League website reported that Martin Atkinson was 4th official, guess he was at the game as a Leeds fan.

Cheers Rusty, that explains why Rob got the late call. He must have done it early or Rob was in the vicinity as he lives about an hour from Elland Road.

:) deffo Michael. I've known Martin nearly 20 years and met Michael a few times on courses. I'm not sure he'd like being mistaken for Mr A. I saw Martin at the Barnsley Carabao Cup game but no others this season.

I didn't really mean that as such, rather before they realised they could get Rob Atkin to the game in time they were going to ask Martin Atkinson to be 4th official but then stood him down.
