Junior Football

After refereeing half a dozen senior games this season I got my first Junior game (11/09) and made a huge mistake. Now this game had several players in it that I had coached for 5years up until 2 1/2 years ago but neither team were the team I had managed.

However the mistake was nothing to do with bais (of which I was accused at one point!) it was an U15's game and I went in thinking this will just be a case of standing there blowing my whistle a few times and going home.... Now it wasnt a dirty game but I was not prepared for more rough and tumble and backchat than I remember for junior games!

So a lesson I have learnt which I should have really known is not to be presumptuous about any fixture!

Indeed. Learn from your experience. Like I have discovered, from making the change to only doing adult football, you will get much more hastle from the hormone-filled U15s match than you will in most others!

Exactly, we all learn better by our mistakes - i certainly know i do.

One other question, did you report the club for accusing you of bias?..........This is one area that I would never let go - no matter what age/match!

from playing and spectating (not reffing) experience, U15's are just far more competitive than the age groups below (U12 -14). For example, I played in a team from U11 - 14 and I saw 1 caution in the 3 years.

I spoke to a player recently and their team are now getting 4 cards most matches
