Actually felt a little sorry for this player yesterday.

Women's OA, top of the table potential title decider, level 4 ref, me and another NAR on the line.

Did my pre match check for jewellery - experienced teams , near the end of the season, they all KNOW you can't wear jewellery.

"Don't forget to take it all off" I said. Then noticed capt had a very small ring type earing - "Can I tape it?" she said, "Sorry, no" I replied.

At the toss she was still wearing it, going to have to come out, me and the ref told her. Couldn't get it out, game stared, rolling subs so she could have come back.

Even went back to the changing rooms - miles away from the pitch, came back, still not out, asked me politely during the game if she could tape it, same answer obviously!

After about 40 mins she, with a lot of help finally manged to remove it and she played the rest of the match.

As I say I did feel a bit sorry for her - getting soft in my old age!

The Ref Stop
i asked a player to take an earring out last week (sunday cup game), he said it couldnt come out...however he'd forgotten that earlier in the season we'd had exactly the same discussion and it came out (eventually) that time so he sheepishly went away to sort

Serious issue in grassroots ladies football tbh. Lots of referees letting them play, taped up or otherwise.

Am aware of a few refs going out there with rings and necklaces and earrings on too. So annoying.

Thanks but it was obvious to all it WAS dangerous, one of those small thin rings in a pierced ear, silly to even consider playing really!
Dangerous or not, Law prevents it.

Very unlikely to cause themselves or an other potential injury through contact, but not a good look if we're trying to impose "do as i say, not as i do"

Good look or not, this is also specifically against the law.

Law 5 states that:

I have small ear tunnels in so need to leave them in. Will need to make the decision to get rid of them no doubt if I get promoted :(
(Luckily so far, no player cares)

I imagine loose flesh tunnels would be more dangerous. I'd probably look at getting the ones that fill the hole in a skin colour so they are discreet.

And they still present a danger. It only takes one stray loose shot/cannon to hit you in the head/ear and that's going to sting when the stud point gets hit.

I know this first hand because I wear a device (exempt from the laws, thank you IFAB) and I've been hit on that device once this season and fortunately there was no damage. Still, not worth the risk for something completely unnecessary like jewellery.

TBH they should ban those stupid sports bra things they put the GPS fitness transponder things in. Look absolutely ridiculous.:p

And don't get me started on socks!!!

KIDS THESE DAYS! *yells at cloud*

In a very very long time of being involved, I have just one recollection of a jewellery incident....

a story from years ago where a lino checked the nets pre match by jumping up to play with the hook bits, his ring caught in the hook, he lost his finger.

I had a situation where a 11 year old had to play with glasses or he would not be able to see. Normal glasses not sports glasses. Is it ok to let him play if I say it's his responsibility if anything breaks or he gets injured?
