I've always thought ARs are underutilised. Why can't the AR on the other side get down that end for a penalty to watch encroachment? They can then hurry back to their half if it doesn't go in, but another pair of eyes can't hurt. Sending it off to IFAB now.
Of course, they also must have the courage to actually flag it, which most don't seem to when it comes to keepers off the line.
and what if the ball stays in and play breaks to the defence? There's nobody in position to watch fouls up that end, offside, or ball in/out of play.
The ref is perfectly capable of spotting the encroachment - he just chose to ignore it.
