Team A defender pulls back team B striker, before the ref has had a chance to blow for the foul team B striker had volleyed the defender.

Defender BOOKED
Attacker SENT OFF VC

Both correct decisions but the ref awarded a free kick to the defending side despite them committing the first offence.

Is this correct ?

Volleyed the defender? Don't know what that means...

Anyway, when you have 2 consecutive incidents like this, the restart is for the first one - the 2nd incident doesn't change the first incident, and as the ref has decided to stop play for the first one, effectively the 2nd one occurs out of play.

So the attacking team should have had the FK.

These are NOT simultaneous offences, so the 'most severe' clause doesn't apply.

The only possibility for the FK to be for the second offence is that if the referee had already applied advantage for the first foul.

But even then you'd pull it back, as the advantage can't have accrued if the attacking player being held is still close enough to the defender to kick him. Sounds to me like the referee has just got in a muddle and assumed the offence that constituted VC trumped the USB offence, but it shouldn't have.

In Aus, once you play advantage you can't pull it back. But I agree that it would most likely be a misapplication if you play afvantage here. Also agree on the likelyhood scenario of what happens in the OP.

In England it depends on the level. At lower levels referees are expected to signal immediately they decide to play advantage and then pull it back if necessary. At higher levels they are expected to take their time and only signal once it has accrued, in which case it should be too late to pull it back.
