Refereeing u16 tonight. First half went ok. Second half one team came out to hurt the other team. One tackle left a player with a bad injury. Both teams players pushing each other. Another bad challenge sees me send off a player two players who I already had spoken to started pushing each other again. I then decided to abandon the match i felt another player would get seriously injured. Both coaches were happy with me ending It. Really tough game but though I handled it well. Oh and did I mention this was a friendly

An unfortunate experience for a young referee, and sounds as though you did the right thing.
Make sure you submit a full report of the incidents and abandonment, even though it was a "friendly" match.
Every match is a learning experience - onwards and upwards!
Thanks for sharing.

The 'friendly' matches are always the most unfriendly ;)

Years back I abandoned a friendly. Few days later, I saw the highlights on you tube. that plus reflection on the game, on that occasion, led me to point the finger at myself.
Particularly on flare up near the end, I tried to be too clever, tried to manage things which in hindsight were only managable by sanction, and when it flared up again shortly after, I can accept my neglect of duty had a huge part to play

nobody will ever know of course but had I refereed to type, with the usual leniant slant, instead of the free for all mentality, maybe the game would havd reached its natural conclusion.

lesson learnt
