My season that is, not everyone elses.
Easy going game, relatively good natured for the first half and into the second. Very few fouls and certainly nothing to card. Reds are 5-0 up going into half-time.
About ten minutes into the second half yellow player comes in with a late tackle on red. I could have carded him, but thought that it was on the edge of reckless/careless and decided (based on the nature of the game as much as anything else) to issue a warning rather than a caution. Red player was clearly not happy about the foul and even more unhappy about the decision not to card. As he gets up I tell him I don't want any retaliation. He tells me there will be none. The pair of them are against each other for the free kick and I keep a close eye on them. The free kick is saved and as red is coming away from the penalty area he has words with the yellow player. I didn't hear all of what was said but I clearly heard "you c@@t". Called him across and told him that I am not having that sort of language on my pitch. He said, "Is it a yellow". I reply, "No. I'm not having anyone speaking like that, you will have to go" and show him a red.
I had no issues with the red card, although I was a little disappointed that it had come to this. I guess he felt aggrieved at the tackle which, on reflection, I could have easily given a yellow for.
The bugger of it was though, that after sending him off and restarting my watch I nodded for the goalie to carry on (he still had the ball in his hands). It wasn't until he kicked it out and everyone carried on with the game that I remembered the restart should have been an IDFK - doh.
Needless to say, a bit of verbals from reds thereafter when decisions didn't go their way - including not calling an offside(because it wasn't) and yellows getting a goal back.
After the game the offending red came over and asked again why he had been sent off. When I told him he said that he wouldn't use that word and no-one else heard it. He said he would appeal. I told him that if he wasn't happy with my decision to send him off that he was well within his rights to appeal. I didn't tell him that such an appeal would not be entertained without video evidence. Let him find that out himself.
10-1 to reds in the end.
