They're pretty large files so could take a while

If your download speed isn't fast enough it'll fail

Assuming you have a Windows operating system, just double clicking the file will launch the default unzip program.

I downloaded a few of these but wouldn't let me open them said i needed a winRAR licence

In Windows Explorer, select the file and right click. This will bring up a menu where you choose Open With, then select Windows Explorer.

Otherwise download a tool such as 7zip (freebie), install it and use that. A rar file is just a compressed archive file must the same as a zip file. http://www.howtogeek.com/73904/beginner-how-to-extract-.rar-files-on-windows-7-and-mac-os-x/ adds some more to this.
