Open Age EFL assistants and flagging fouls

I was at an EFL game today and both assistants gave 2 fouls each but didn't flag them.

The ref was a long way away from the fouls (within 10 yards of the corner flag) and the fouls were given in a delayed fashion (nothing to do with advantage).

Is there a new directive to ask A/R's to avoid flagging and just speak over comms?

Seems very odd.

If they didn't flag how do you know they gave them? Could have been the referee gave them, albeit from a distance.

No, there is no new directive. Generally speaking, in any games where comms are in use, ARs will only be flagging for fouls that are blindingly obviously theirs to lead .. or occasionally to reinforce that a sanction is required. It may well be that the AR in your particular game was a little ‘flag shy’ but it’s certainly not a change in general approach

it was the delay and the refs distances each time that gave the impression.

Didnt see any 'foul flags' for the whole game from either assistant.
