The announcement of the dropping of the FA quarter final replays has caused numerous comments on the BBC - all negative and going on about the Winter Break. As the only educated people, what is our view?

They are all moaning about the evil of Sky's money, Euro CHampions league, etc but they want their teams to win and so want their share. The true fans of football are those at local league (including referees).
We don't get a planned winter break (just enforced when is floods, snows, freezes).

Just another nail in the fa cup coffin. Won't be long before there'll be no replays at all

Replays are only really worthwhile for "minnow" clubs where a heroic performance earns a replay which gets them a windfall.

At the quarter final stage, all the minnows should be banished and serious efforts to win the cup are the order of the day, just play to a finish.

There were similar complaints when the replay of the Final was scrapped. Nobody really complained after the Liverpool -West Ham game which was exciting. Then there were complaints about dropping the semi-final replays, which was also actually a good idea. Add a sense of drama to the occasions.

To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing them extend to the Fourth Round proper, and then ties be played to a finish. This allows the smaller clubs to earn some extra cash, but also avoids that ridiculous situation where ties from other rounds are played concurrently with the next - Chelsea- Brentford sprimgs to mind; 4th round tie played on 5th round day because of delays.

Think they need to be kept until the 5th round. Purely from a point of personal bias, Stevenage wouldn't have got to play at White Hart Lane without it and there are still enough teams who benefit from replays to keep them. By the time you reach the quarter-finals, any lower league teams still remaining have made enough money from their run that the main goal becomes reaching Wembley.
