CP v Leeds

Censorship. Dictatorship
Guehi getting just a yellow when in my opinion this is denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity here. 3 on 1 and could pass to either player and its a fantastic chance to retake the lead.
I know in the little book of laws it is a yellow (SPA, shirt pulling), but this is the type of foul I'd like to see punished further (including similar fouls on halfway line). Maybe this is what Sin Bin could be used for.
It punishes the defending team properly for this.

Doesn't even come close to ticking the boxes for DOGSO though. Several defenders back for starters. Extremely cynical yes, but can't be a red.

Only 1 defender between him and the keeper.
I know it doesn't qualify for DOGSO as per laws of game but its such an obvious "cheating" tactic.

Whether I’m just paying attention more or this is happening more, I’m seeing a lot more fouls like this. Agree that it’s not a DOGSO per the Laws, but for me it’s a lot more than a basic SPA. It’s another example of a sin bin worthy type of foul.

Next year, MLS and Liga MX are doing a month long tournament. They are already experimenting with playing 90 minutes, going straight to kicks for a group stage draw, and giving the team winning the shootout two points instead of one (losing team still gets a point for the draw). I’d love to see an experiment with sin bins for dissent and blatant SPA in this event.

Yeah, I agree the laws could be changed to allow for a sin bin, my point was that under the current laws it can't be a red card. Too wide, too many defenders back, not really moving directly towards goal. He was never going to take a shot himself, rather would have crossed it for one of the attackers in the centre had he not been pulled back.

I doubt we’ll see a professional trial of sin b ins any time soon. They want the players on the field as people are paying to see them play. A sin bin for dissent isn’t going to accomplish anything—since they don’t card for dissent now, I’m lost on why anyone thinks increasing the sanction for dissent makes it more likely that refs would pull the card. It would do the exact opposite and make them even less likely. As for egregious SPA, there are enough challenges with DOGSO vs SPA vs just a foul. I doubt the powers that be really want to add a fourth bucket for Rs to have to assess. (I’d also note that some of the problem is that IFAB got frustrated that Rs werenkt sending off enough for professional fouls and got more specific about the criteria, stripping Rs of the abii to use discretion, as the boxes have to be checked to give the send off.)

No one’s going to watch the Leagues Cup. It will be the perfect tournament to try it. ;)
