The Ref Stop

Ciaran Clark tackle

The Ref Stop
Absolutely and a card to go with it.
This crap makes players think getting the ball negates destroying the player

It's a freekick and I am half and half as to which pocket I would be going.... Probably yellow, but would be giving me something to think about

@jack.prescott I used to play centre mid and loved a tackle, but even I couldnt ignore this one as "its a mans game". In fairness had I made a tackle like that I would have been arguing it was a fair challenge all day long!

Every time I watch it I even struggle to work out what leg he wins the ball with! Is it the high flying right, or does the referee choose to ignore that kung fu leg and lets the fact he wipes the player out and his trailing foot gets the ball.

It's definitely a foul, no arguing that at all. But I think I would've probably got a solid pat on the back after a tackle like that, mainly because I wasn't normally one that'd go in for crunching tackles more a tactical shirt pull kind of guy. Although, ironically, pushing and pulling are generally the 2 things I'm hottest on now as a ref!

No doubt the type of tackle that come full time you'd be telling everyone about how you managed to throw the other player up in the air. Although Sunday league, turning a player upside down like that I'm pretty sure I'd have got a whack round the head for doing so!

Clear foul. I'm taking a guess, but I think he got the ball with the left foot and carried through with the right foot on the player. If so, that's a red for me with the sheer force.....

For me, all the criterias for serious foul play is met her. Excessive force and endagers the safety of the player

That to me is a good solid tackle. Wheres the foul? From what I see Clark only makes contact with the ball there is no contact with the opposition player, unless it was netball lol

Nope, In my opinion there is no contact with the player and Clark's sole intent is playing the ball. Which he does. Where is the excessive force and endangerment given that there is no contact with the player?

No contact, you can't be serious? how come he does a 180 in the air then? He bangs into him. And since when does playing the ball matter? That is a myth kept alive by pundits, but we referees know better, surely?

There is no contact as the ball is between them, its basic physics is why the player in the blue does a 180, momentum or rather his momentum suddenly coming to a sudden halt with the equalized force of Clark contacting the ball. Obviously I can see why some see it as a foul, or even a serious foul warranting a red carded sanction but I see that as a good very solid tackle. Its all well and good having the hindsight of Tv replays, So I couldn't say for definite how I would respond if a challenge like that was made during one of my youth or amateur games

No, he touches the ball, but the majority of the force is applied to the player, much higher. Not through on the feet, through the ball, but on the upper part of his legs/knees. Obviously, TV replays don't help, if someone can still say there is no contact ;-)

There are 3 types of people in the world.

Those who make things happen, Clarke.

People who watch things happen, Clattenberg.

People who say what the funk just happened, Leicester player.

I'm happy with the outcome, it's only referees suggesting it was a foul. Maybe it could have been, but everyone was happy to play on, players fans and Clattenberg, so I'm happy.
