Back pass hit post

Hi. First post on here….

Defender hits back pass to keeper. But poor pass so it misses the keeper and hits the post and comes back to the keeper who picks it up.
I gave deliberate back pass. They complained that hitting the post negates it but I think not.
Correct?

Nothing in the Laws makes the post an intermediary. From the sparse description, the one question I might have is whether it was a pass or a poor attempt to clear over the end line? If a pass, I agree with your call.
