The Ref Stop

Atletico vs Barca

Mooseybaby

Retired big bad baldy in all black!
AM deserved their win on the night, well organised, defended for their lives and somewhat cynical at times neutralising Barcelona's attacking threat to claim a semi-final spot.

Controversy at the end, handball given against Madrid's Gabi. Referee awarded Barca a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area, replays showed Gabi's feet were on the line (classed as inside the box) and the arm the ball hit was well inside the box. Needless to say Barca's players were not happy.

Overall though, not seen Barcelona look so poor for such a long time and never looked like scoring. Even if they had been awarded a penalty, they have missed 9 already this season!

Agreed. Neymar was fairly busy throughout (though ineffective) but Messi was practically invisible.
Difficult handball decision mind. The ref has to be 150% sure if he's going to award that last minute penalty and change the result of the whole tie. :)

AR can surely see it's inside and should be informing ref. More worryingly, Gabi wasn't given a (his second) caution for it!
Iniesta, red for DOGSOH or YC correct?

Not sure about Gabi but Iniesta should definitely have seen red. DOGSO all day long. :)

What do you mean not sure about Gabi?? He'd already been cautioned. Are you seriously saying that the handball wasn't worthy of a caution??

I see what you mean. Not every handball offence is cautionable. Although having looked at the situation as it happened again, I'd be inclined to agree with you that he should have seen another yellow for that, which is clearly why the ref didn't caution him.
