I echo some of the sentiments above, particularly RefSheff who talks of '10 minute refereeing '. In any game you feel the temperature rising. Ok you may get the occasional two idiots who flare up out of nowhere but mostly the incidents you describe are a build up of incidents. If you have a few tackles flying in in quick succession look to get a few names in your book, even if it's harsh, and make every offence a free kick unless it's a near certain goal. That way the players realise YOU are the boss and they'll dance to your tune
