16 yellows and 2 reds

County cup game being played where i was reffing today.

Both teams have ex-pros apparently.

Referee (Level 3 he told me) did 16 yellows and 2 reds.

From minute one stupid tackles etc. Ref has been reffing 10 years and he said he's never known anything like it.

I reckon thats £300 of fines plus 2 bans for fighting.

Sometimes you just get those kinds of teams, they probably get away with it most weeks when they have lower level referees, then they come across a senior referee who won't stand for it and the cards fly. I had similar in my last game at L4 before promotion to L3, in a county cup final and one team were a bunch of thugs. I wasn't having it, set my stall out early but they didn't learn and they ended up with card numbers in double figures with both captain and manager sent off

Amazing to have that amount of yellow cards and only two reds really.

I know you’re super experienced RR and refereed at a FAR higher level than I ever will but that’s a bit harsh to us L7s & L6s. Can’t imagine my relative inexperience turning a 16 YC/2RC match into MMA with a ball.

That's deliberately why I said lower level referees rather than L7s and L6s. Like it or not, there are a lot of referees, including L5s, that just do it for the money, they never issue any cards, and when they do they don't report them. That was the type of referee I was aiming the comment at, it isn't likely to be people that are members of this forum because they have no interest in learning or developing, they just want the money and an easy life.
