I just had a survey through from my local FA about what issues we face and how they could be tackled. I basically said I thought it was a problem with the sport, the culture and society in general and I doubt there was anything they could do that would make any difference.

We have a mercy rule in place in the youth league I officiate in. If it gets to an 8 goal deficit, the losing team coach can declare the result and then either end the game, or play the rest of the match as a development game. They can also continue but review after each subsequent goal.

Just make dissent a regular caution with the additional punishment of a sin bin. Much simpler for everyone involved.

A penalty is sometimes the hardest decision to make, but if you make the right call, it's often the easiest decision to sell... As previously said it's when you give one for something that nobody expects that you might find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.

Surely it would have been easier for everyone to just make a SB a regular caution, but with the temporary suspension tacked on for dissent offences. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree, but once intervention takes place I am glad to see a referee sticking by his original decision. Too often a look at the monitor is an assumption of a change in the decision (as evident by the commentary in this case) I don't really see how the two are linked as one required...

I'm glad he stuck with his decision. We need to see more of that.

At what point do you drop the arm if the ball is played long? I drop it upon the next contact, but I’m unsure that is correct or not?
