    Michael Oliver.....

I too, was very impressed with Mr Oliver's performance last night and I also loved to hear the commentators compliment the referee for a change. He kept himself very composed - you could see that he wasn't very happy with Di Maria but he kept his cool :)

    villa v west brom

With the first sending off, Anthony Taylor has seen the WBA player jump in and the AV player writhing around on the floor and connected those dots. Could you argue that the tackle from Yacob should be given as playing in a dangerous manner instead of for making the contact with the other player?

    Foul or no foul?

Hello Gary, Every player has a right to their position on the field of play. From what I've read it sounds like a foul on the red player but I think you have to be there to call it accurately :)

I didn't Keith that well, I met him on occasions. You didn't need to know him well though to be able to tell that he was a very nice man Like all, extremely shocked to hear that he had died. RIP

Advice on RC form (player loses it and throws about 1000 punches)

If the Police should be called in a certain situation, who does it? Do you get one of the managers/coaches to do it or do you quickly pop back to your changing room and call them yourself?

Michael Owen - the worst of the worst?

He did it again with a later incident too - "He was the last man as well". Both times I was thinking that this guy is a complete idiot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_refereeing_in_England Part 2 on this page has a table on what level does what. I use that as an estimate :)

Open Age 2nd Open Age Game & Positive Feedback

I refereed my 2nd OA game today, only big decision was whether or not to give a penalty, and I decided to give it. Final score was 5-1 to the home team. After the game there was lots of positive feedback from both managers and players. They said I had "a cracking game" and made some good...

    Somerset - a death wish?

Have got my first open age job as an assistant in the Weston Super Mare and District league this weekend. I'll let you know what the players are like in that if you want :D Unless I have misunderstood and the death wish is what your partner will say :D

what! nothing on phil dowd and manure v chelski

In one of the England friendlies in America leading up to the world cup the referee made an appearance on TV to explain his decision to postpone the match due to a lightning storm. None of the presenters would have a go at them so the referees would be given a good opportunity to explain why...

An angry parent who spat twice in the face of a 16-year-old refere

    Ref Signals to Assisstant

I was out watching Bristol City vs Bradford last night and I noticed a few times that the referee was gesturing to his Junior assistant on what the decision was being made when down the far end of the field of play. The assistant would then flag afterwards. Would this just be to make it look...

    Any decent referee books?

Just before I started my course last year I received a book called You Are The Ref. A big book with lots of scenarios that could potentially happen (some of them are very unlikely) Overall, very good and correct way to deal with the scenarios is given upside-down next to them.

I think you may be correct. U11 is 9v9, U10 is Mini soccer and is 7v7

Doing my first mini soccer game this weekend

I've done a few mini soccer games. I normally have the two assistants though to help with ball in/out of play. It's generally a fair bit easier as you don't have to worry about offsides which is a great weight lifted. I've found safety of the players is more important at that age and it is...

I recently bought myself a rather nice suit to turn up to games in for when I start doing county games in an attempt to look more official :)

Refereeing Positions at Goal Kicks and Corners

I can't produce a diagram for you but from a corner kick I think I mainly want to be able to see if there is any infringements in the box eg. shirt pulling or players grabbing other players. I would also like to be able to see my assistant. After the ball is kicked I may want to move to see if I...
