Liv City - Klopp and Pep for maybe the last time

Of course I think that it's an accurate summary otherwise I wouldn't have said it. I'm simply offering an opinion based on what I've seen and read, which is that it was not a C&O error and that VAR was correct not to get involved. Me offering a summary of what I think I've read is just that...

Liv City - Klopp and Pep for maybe the last time

What on earth are you talking about? Please point me to where I have said the conversation should be shut down, or that there shouldn't be a discussion? For what it's worth I think it was a penalty, but I don't think it was a clear and obvious error and I therefore think it was right for VAR...

Liv City - Klopp and Pep for maybe the last time

Whatever your thoughts on the decision, the fact that we're 3 pages (and almost 50 posts) into a thread without there being a consensus is a fairly good indicator that: (1) the onfield decision by MO was not clearly and obviously wrong; and (2) Stuart Attwell was correct not to recommend an OFR...

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

I agree and in that scenario you’re still enforcing the laws of the game. The skill level at U12 versus, say U17, dictates that the bar for what constitutes an OGSO will be much higher, so you’re much more likely to end up with an SPA caution than a DOGSO dismissal.

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

I cannot stress enough that this is not the correct approach. If you are appointed to referee a match, regardless of the age of the players, you have a responsibily to enforce the laws of the game, and that includes issuing the appropriate sanctions where required. There are very few ocassions...

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

Are you deliberately trolling here? Nowhere in the OP does it say that the goalkeeper was off balance, just that he handled the ball whilst the ball was in the air, yet having not seen the incident you're confident enough to say that the ref got it wrong. This forum is meant to be constructive...

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

Ignoring the decision itself as it sounds like a definite YHTBT moment, I think I'd have taken the same approach to the caution that you did. Unfortunately at that age you're very likely to get an emotional reaction (e.g. crying). One approach that has worked for me in the past is to say...

    RefChat is now a teenager

Just looked and I've apparently now been here for just short of 11 years! It can be lonely out there as a L7 with no local RA, so this forum has been a great sounding board for me and I'm certain I'm a better referee for having been here. Massive thank you to Ross (and all the other...

    Penalty Kick Encroachment

Interesting one in my U13 game at the weekend. Penalty awarded to reds which is saved by the keeper and immediately bounces out to another red attacker who puts the ball in. All fine, apart from the fact that the attacker was about 3 yards into the box when it was taken, so I blew to disallow...

    Newcastle v Man City

This really wound me up last night. I totally appreciate that you’ll never get consistency between referees and across games, but at the very least the referees have to be consistent across a single game. No issue with the RodrI or Bernardo cautions in isolation, but Bruno committed a late...

Absolutely the right decision. Well done!

    Nike Shirt - Pocket Issues

I like the collar but the buttons have always felt flimsy, so was hoping the collarless shirt would be an improvement. Apparently not!

    Nike Shirt - Pocket Issues

A very first world issue, but has anybody else had any issues with the pockets on the current Nike shirt? I keep my notebook and pen in my shirt pocket and on multiple ocassions this season both of them have fallen out of the pocket mid-sprint. This has never happened to me with any previous...

    Pal v Eve

I just don’t see that challenge as a red card. It’s a little bit high, but there’s very little force and I don’t think there’s an argument that it endangers the safety of an opponent. Yet another example of VAR stepping in to correct something that isn’t a clear and obvious error.

    NEW LIV

There’s no world in which that should be a penalty. It’s clear simulation from Jota and should be a Newcastle FK and YC to Jota. We seem to have arrived at a point where contact means there’s not a clear and obvious error, which defeats the whole object and simply cannot be right.

Turkish Referee Halil Umet Meler punched by club president

A perfect example of what we're up against. For as long as there's a significant (and vocal) portion of society that thinks referees or those in authority deserve what they get simply by being an authority figure, nothing will ever change. A sad indictment of modern society.

    Luton vs Man City

Gets worse every time you watch it. Two feet off the ground, totally out of control and clearly endangering the safety of an opponent. Robinson didn’t even give a FK in real time so can’t have seen it properly (which I don’t blame him for as he was wrong side), but I don’t understand why VAR...

    Manager calls after game

Off topic, but this reminded me of one of my favoruite sitcom sketches ever... Back on topic, there's no way I'm taking a call from a manager to complain/question a decision after a game. If you have a question and can be respectful I will happily speak to you on the FOP at the end of the...

    Man City v Spurs

I agree with you to an extent, but I think this is a moot point here because Haaland did play the blind pass and he did find Grealish. All of your points are absolutely valid if he blows at the point of the foul or before Haaland plays the pass, but he blows once (at least in my opinion) any...
