Why was the crossed arms signal unacceptable- do we know what/why the coach was signalling/alleging?

Do you think we will get an explanation about the Egypt coach’s racism signal (the crossed arms) and subsequent yellow?

    Sitting out Pre season games

I had first match of the season today on 2 hrs 17 mins sleep. Last whistle in March. I would have benefited from a truckload of Hammerite. #rusty Take those warm ups!

    Mex v Eng

We can only guess that they’ve been briefed to avoid cards. Otherwise the lack of dissent cards was a major issue.

    World Cup referee standards

Because VAR is re-refereeing the game microscopically.

    World Cup referee standards

I don’t agree. I think referees are better trained than ever. But unrealistic expectations have risen exponentially. There are also far too many law changes every year. And the televised VAR game continues to diverge as a different sport.

The scuffing the penalty spot behind the referee - also should be AR1 ensuring the card gets given.

    France v Paraguay

I have some sympathy. The penalty, Almiron had got in front of Doue and it was another defender who did the trip. My first impression was that Doue had lost the ball and initiated - though on replay it is an obvious foul. There were plenty of occasions when the referee didn’t stand for nonsense...

    CAN vs MAR

Canada were poor in the final third. Complete reluctance to cross the ball. Plenty of woeful no look passes. They really needed to fluke one in the opening ten mins.

    CAN vs MAR

Looking at the whole match the flurry of cards really helped the match and prevented it from boiling over. Second half was well in control. I’m not so sure this was a great overall outing for the trio. Looked like AR2 had a missed OS in the second half. AR1 flagged a lot, with a lot of...

    CAN vs MAR

Hmm I thought card 6 was soft. And I think replays showed he missed probably the worst offence (another Moroc trod on a Can foot) - and I hope that doesn’t explain why soft cards followed. The Hashimi foul and card was way too reactive and then MO put himself in between the players. It was very...

    Don't talk, card.

“It’s important to let them express their emotions” is common advice from top refs. On the flip side a big trigger for me is half time or full time when one or more officials gets into an endless discussion. Drives me nuts, always presents badly, worse if it’s an AR that keeps talking.

Someone else in the know said the visuals are a representation and bear no resemblance to what the sensors pick up.

    Portugal v Croatia

“I think it was a disgusting robbery. In the replay the ball doesnt change speed, direction and even the rotation doesn flinch the slightest, so how did it affect the play? Even in the replay from the byline there is a clear gap between the ball and croatian players head. What i find...

    England Vs DR Congo

Is now a good time to tell about what happened to my contact database integration when the ISO international naming standards for the Congos changed? Don’t even get me started on Burma!

Collina has kinda already cut off the YC for waving the card thing at the last world cup IIRC he came out and said something along the lines of “international language” …

    Mex v Ecu

Last season - hmm probably October in my calendar - the hand-over-mouth law was already rumoured and I had a smart alec player pull me up on it (I had done a subconscious hand over mouth with a player probably more in a Covid hangover than anything else). I (we) marveled that the player had been...

    Mex v Ecu

When having “the chat” with an AR I have got into the habit of covering my mouth and it’s a hard habit to change. It was a useful tool to avoid throwing an AR under the bus… but obvs should be avoided now;)
