Not privy to the details in each competition (e. g. World Cup 2026) but just pointing out that's how it works at the top level. Briefings from Collina and his team will be designed to set out standards and officiating requirements, in the same way as officials on any major are instructed. It's a...

    Field conditions - dry weather

The main difference is the nature of the playing surface. Frozen = slippery and therefore dangerous.

    Sitting out Pre season games

May be helpful to do one or two, allowing you to become accustomed to some changes in law which are going to confuse players and team management, e. g. the one minute off if play is stopped for an injury.

    Mex v Eng

As has been said, the guidance for World Cup 2026 referees will have been kept within their circle and explained to them during their daily update sessions. Such guidance is specific to each competition, as we have seen with the varying approaches adopted even within UEFA.

    Mex v Eng

Attempting to write literal guidance would be a mega challenge🫤

    France v Paraguay

If memory serves, he was the Referee who whistled for a penalty then saw the ball entering the goal so changed his signal to "goal"

    Mex v Ecu

It can sometimes be a necessary action if wishing to avoid subsequent activity from lip readers and/or commentators.

    L7-6 promotion

County FA's have discretion on this point, so would be wise to ask your RDO.

Majority are Level 5, good number of Level 6's also.

    Mexico v Czechia

I know that, Russell, but if the goalkeeper was slowing things the referee should insist on the use of the nearest point (I haven't seen the incident, so not sure how it unfolded)

    Mexico v Czechia

Did the referee tell the goalkeeper to leave the field from the nearest point?

Because many referees were loathe to award ifk's . . .

    Canada vs Qatar

Endangered is the past tense of the verb "to endanger", surely?

    All this counting

That's interesting - I observe in leagues above grass roots, through to semi-pro, and the visible count has been a regular feature in every match. I observed at around 65 matches in the season just finished. Only on 3 occasions did it result in a corner kick award, so the count did its job

    IFAB changes for 26-27

Law 5 wording has been changed by the removal of the requirement for a quick assessment, so now there is no time limit.

    IFAB changes for 26-27

Appreciating that our regular IFAB contact is via @JamesL I saw that he is busy sorting @RefereeX out, so I e-mailed IFAB directly with a LOTG question. The reference to 20-25 seconds when deciding whether a player can remain on the f. o. p. after being injured in a caution/dismissal offence...

    IFAB changes for 26-27

We are going to get into semantics about the difference between the referee stopping play and the referee delaying the restart of play to ask the player whether they need the physio🤔

    Throwing

As throws are only used from age 12 upwards, we are looking at youth football rather than mini-soccer; from my experience, most teenagers just want to get on with it. Awareness of the count if needed early in the game will sort any stragglers.
