Just as an update. Club have been charged with multiple offences and players charged with violent conduct and an additional charge of violent conduct of attempting to assault a match official.

I was asked to be in finals by both leagues over two weekends. I chose to do one of each even though I was asked to do both by both leagues.

I got £75 total for 3 matches! 2 x u18 (both on the line and 1 u16 (centre) I won’t be doing their finals again.

I get what you are saying, but surely it would benefit the game and hence the teams? Is rugby reduced in any way because of respect to the officials? It’s sad that a league I’m in is struggling to get adult refs because of abuse.

I can’t agree with that. Look at rugby and how it’s officiated and how players address the official. If this was implemented in football from the top and from the bottom, it would soon be the standard.

Exactly. If the clamped down on this at the top, we would see the benefits lower down.

Agreed on both comments, but when they watch top level football and how players get away with total verbal abuse of an official then what do they expect to happen at youth football?

I understand that this team is disbanding as they aged out, so punishment is pretty much irrelevant.

I thought it’s harsh, but once VAR called him over he had to give it. The game management was a ref masterclass. Didn’t blow for every little contact. Didn’t fall for the falling over from the gentlest of touches.

Master class in refereeing for me. Let the game flow. Didn’t fall for cheap fouls. Even the penalty was a handball. I was really impressed.

With a direct free kick….once they ask for a wall, then i tell the attacking team to wait for my whistle. I won’t have a wall being set up and catch the keeper off guard.
