    ARG v CRO

Easy PK, Orsato the perfect ref to handle the hotheads on this pitch. Would have made a great candidate for the final too. Great to see Kovacic actually booked for dissent

Prospects for the last 8 (OT fan stuff)

Yello is never getting it with Argentina in the semis, I'd wager. So that'd mean that Oliver would be a near-garuantee. (I'd be happy with that, he's been really good this tournament.) Edit: I'm completely forgetting that Marciniak also exists. Orsato got the first semi, curious to see the...

Prospects for the last 8 (OT fan stuff)

I'm also assuming that these results mean that Makkelie is now favorite for the final, right? That's assuming FIFA will accept that Argentina knocked out NL and that won't affect him, but if Croatia progress, I'm not seeing anyone contesting him for it. Tello is out, Lahoz did himself no real...

    France vs England

Yeah, appears I'm wrong. Thought pushing was also similar to holding, but that's in the outdated Dutch version of the laws. Not in the English one, so it's probably been wrongly translated or local guidance. Don't think I've ever had to use the law, luckily enough.

    France vs England

"If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick." I've always inferred it from this, otherwise they would have specified 'all fouls' or something akin to that. Might be more text in the laws...

Reactions to Oliver vs Taylor from England?

Out here in NL we really don't care about gum. In fact, I've played with gum myself adn I've seen loads of pro players do so as well. Nothing in the laws state that it can't be done, but can see the angle for safety as well. Never thought of it

    France vs England

Any foul that is not holding or pushing is considered to be made at first contact

    ENG vs SEN

Barton's third game so far, and so far I feel he's been excellent. Great for Nesbitt to get some game time herself. Perphaps SPA there, although he's let a similar one go on the other end of the pitch. Good game so far

FRA vs POL Matchday 14 - Valenzuela (VEN)

They finally found it and decided to do something about it :)

FRA vs POL Matchday 14 - Valenzuela (VEN)

Kounde playing with a necklace, seems like jewelery is allowed at the highest levels?

SER vs SUI Matchday 12 - Rapallini (ARG)

Lovely game so far, couple deserved yellows but ref is letting the game flow. Great to watch

GHA vs URU Matchday 12 - Siebert (GER)

Anyone giving the cavani call at the end? Have seen them plenty given, with much more contact there than for the Ghana pk Edit: oops, didn't load earlier messages basically asking the same q

GHA vs URU Matchday 12 - Siebert (GER)

Wow, really close call. Have to admit that I was only glancing at the TV, wouldn't have given the PK and once again don't think it's clear and obvious. Ref didn't look like he was awarding a PK if it wasn't offside either.

GHA vs URU Matchday 12 - Siebert (GER)

Surely that was line of vision and offside before the pen?

CRO vs BEL Matchday 11 - Taylor (ENG)

Fully believe that the best option would have been to review for the foul instead of the offside. Must have literally been a mm, while the foul was at least more of an obvious mistake (I know, offside is factual, but I've never even seen a frame where I thought the striker was off)

CRO vs BEL Matchday 11 - Taylor (ENG)

At least this offside makes sense to me compared to the France one. Taylor well in control so far. Although that's reaaaaallly close on the 3rd-replay

POL vs ARG Matchday 10 - Makkelie (NED)

Is that clear and obvious? Probably careless, wouldn't have VAR involved. Not clever by the GK but we've often seen keepers get the benefit in these situations

IRN : USA Matchday 9 - Mateu Lahoz (ESP)

Probably the quickest semi-automsted offside yet, right? Looked very close, no chance they manually drew the lines in those five seconds

IRN : USA Matchday 9 - Mateu Lahoz (ESP)

Would have done about as good a job as Lahoz so far, think there's been around two fouls so far. Looks like Iran are going to go for the 0-0, expecting loads of added time and Lahoz to become center stage around minute 75. Edit: whoops, wrong again. Not my WC so fsr

NED vs QAT Matchday 9 - Gassama (GAM)

Nothing special about this game really, Gassama had a really low bar for fouls toady and the Dutch team just being that much better combined with them not wanting yellows made for a bit of a mellow game. Not sure this was convincing enough to get a KO game, as opposed to Turpin, who I heard had...
