    Masks

Very true. But why have the 4th officials in the EPL and now SPFL had to wear one when everyone around them doesn’t have one? Everyone’s apparently been tested so no one there has it. For me it reinforces that masks are ultimately for show, without bringing many benefits.

    Refereeing guidance

At least you’re all getting games. It looks like, annoyingly, I’ll not have any until October despite the fact that the Scottish Government advice allows outdoor sports for all ages from mid-August.

    “Imminent”

That sounds like half the youth football I refereed before all this so it won’t be much change anyway. And when I played in that league a couple of years ago when we did use a changing room it was purely for a “team talk”, so no access to changing rooms for youth football probably isn’t too much...

    Burnley penalty v Wolves

I have to agree. I was watching the game and when I initially heard the whistle I’ll admit I thought this is what he blew for. I’ve watched numerous replays now and still can’t be 100% certain it’s deliberate handball IMO. However I can certainly see how the striker’s foot height is defined as...

Lee Mason tonight, Everton v Southampton

Nope. Penalty remained the decision. The more I watch it the more I think “how can they think that’s a penalty?”. Ward-Prowse just throws himself onto the defender.

Lee Mason tonight, Everton v Southampton

I will admit when I was watching the game live I initially thought it was a penalty, and Everton should have no complaints. However after watching replays of it I have to agree with others - I can’t see how it’s a foul. I’d almost say it was simulation.

    Red card a coach for...?

I’d agree. I’ve had a look at the LotG and highlighted the relevant bit - it doesn’t seem to be a sending off offence. Verbal offences probably just merit verbal encouragement to players to hurry up (as already mentioned by others)

    English Grassroots Return

The pyramid group (or whatever their proper name is) are aiming to restart the Lowland, East of Scotland, West of Scotland, and South of Scotland leagues from the end of September. They’re also aiming for training from the start of August. If that gets the go-ahead then I reckon that amateur...

    English Grassroots Return

I wouldn’t rule it out - many teams in the East of Scotland league up here (tier 6&7) have had their players agree to no wages for the time being.

    Brig v Man Utd

Maybe it could be clarified in the same way that a handball leading to a goal has been clarified this season (i.e. “immediately” before)

    Cry v Bur

It’s the glance beforehand that sold a red for me - Ayew knew what he was doing. I personally couldn’t believe they spent so long looking at it and didn’t change the on-field decision.

    English Grassroots Return

With the education secretary announcing today that social distancing won’t be necessary in Scottish schools when they return in August, I reckon grassroots football up here might return earlier than the January date previously mentioned.

Matteo Guendouzi will face no further action over Neal Maupay incident

Sheffield Utd are 7th and Arsenal are 10th - dunno if Arsenal are really the elite. 🙂

    RA’ and lower levelled referees

To be honest I don’t think this season will be the same as usual. In the last year, I’ve been able to participate in practical sessions at training, and coaching is done at the RA meetings that are 5x per season. But obviously these kind of things aren’t possible just now though.

    Spurs Utd

Reading a couple of posts you seem to imply he isn’t fit enough for the EPL though - despite passing the fitness test.

    Nor v S'Ton

Maybe yeah. If the BBC don’t do the fake crowd, I’ll be able to compare it after tomorrow night.

    Villa v Blades

Numerous times over the last 7 years we have seen goals given that were millimetres over the line. There’s no way the officials knew for definite that those goals had crossed the line - however the technology said it had, it was trusted, and ultimately was right. Surely those goals shouldn’t...

    Nor v S'Ton

Got to agree. I was watching it on Pick so didn’t even have the option of switching channel though.

    Showing immediately the referee signal

Occasionally, usually just after half-time, I’ve ended up forgetting who is attacking where at thrown ins. In these situations I’ve just shouted, for example “blue ball”, and then worked out where to signal after that.

    Luiz red

When you see it like that, it’s an easy DOGSO.
