What’s even more surprising in this incident is the Dundee Utd no 4 (Holt) receives no sanction at all. You can debate whether or not the red was justified (it’s not IMO) however Holt does more than enough to at least receive a yellow.
I’ve always felt Chris Graham has been a decent ref whenever I’ve seen him before. Fairly steady - nothing spectacular but never one for dropping a howler either. Probably one of the better officials to have made their way to the top in the last couple of years.
Overall Friday night wasn’t a...
Agreed but I don’t think that happens here. The hand goes in the chest (with minimal force) and I don’t think it’s really contact with the neck. I can see why the referee thought there was neck contact in real time and gave a red, but to stick with that decision after reviewing it shocked me.
I would agree with previous posts still recommending having a set of flags with you even if they never end up used, especially when you’re on the line. It’s always good to have a back up in case the referee forgets theirs or they break or whatever. They don’t have to be expensive ones though -...
No club ARs in Scotland. Some grassroots refs will take flags to give to a coach to indicate ball out of play, but personally I’m happy to just have them raise their hand/shout/anything else to get my attention. Club Academy rules also state both teams should be on one touchline with parents...
For match admin I think it’s great. It took me approximately 90 minutes to figure it out for my first game this season but since then it’s been fine - far quicker than the old extranet as well. Plenty people said it was a nightmare for clubs to get players registered on during the summer though.
Yeah I think it was pretty much as you described it. After the shot was hit he probably thought “that’s it time’s up” before realising there might be a VAR check for the handball claim, so couldn’t “properly” blow for full time, as such. It looked messy but it was straightforward really.
There...
They just don't bother with that kind of stuff, and if they tried to bring in anything like that then I don't think it would work either due to how 'tribal' certain things are in Scotland. Referees can declare a conflict of interest if appropriate though - main example in recent times has been...
Makes me think of this in the Celtic v Aberdeen semi-final last Saturday. Ball goes out for an Aberdeen throw but Brendan Rodgers boots it back on the pitch. Given a yellow by the referee and whilst it really should’ve been a red absolutely no one would’ve expected it and it seems a punishment...
Abuse from parents/spectators is almost non-existent in my experience. Don’t know how true this is but one ref told me it’s because the players get released if their parents misbehave. Coaches are generally reasonable but can be difficult occasionally.
Don’t know what it’s like down south but u13 is when they start 11-a-side up here so by that age I’m treating it as normal LOTG and sanctions. If that means sending someone off then so be it.
Interestingly I was AR for that referee earlier this season in a lower level game and he mentioned then that the SPFL have said officials are only to wear one of the three current kits (black, yellow or red) in SPFL games. So whilst the red isn’t ideal against the East Fife kit, there’s not much...
Welcome to Scottish football :)
Joking aside though it’s good to see our officials stick to their guns after they’ve been sent over for a questionable review
Two players jostling for the ball in my view. You can't do that and keep your hands by your side, so it's a natural position for the action being carried out and therefore no handball for me.
Slightly playing devils advocate here but if he's taking no disciplinary is this almost better than cautioning or warning? It's undoubtedly OFFINABUS but if he's not heard it he can't do anything - whereas cautioning or talking to the player shows that you heard it but somehow don't deem it...
Saw a clip of the disallowed goal on Twitter earlier. It must have taken me at least a dozen watches of it to see the supposed foul - it's never a foul for me.
