    Chelsea vs Watford

You punish the first offence in this example, so nothing new. Costa pushed Paredes to the ground, so there is the foul, for which the free kick was given. Seeing as the player made a meal of it and was attempting to influence the referee, he was rightly cautioned for UB, but the referee cannot...

Referees that only allow ceremonial free kicks

Funnily enough, I had one of these for the first time in about 3 yrs, last Sunday. I allowed it after the player asked, by shouting "Play" and legging it away from the ball. The shot was on target and the keeper saved it, hardly a word was said. I feel by verbally communicating that play is...

after two assessments my promotion season is blown

Apologies then, didn't realise it had changed.

after two assessments my promotion season is blown

This is all a bit negative for me - have you had the marks? Do you know you've not made it? If that was me, I'd be on the blower to the RDO and discussing whether I need to have another assessment. Unless you are a long way away, it could be that one more assessment at mid-70s would bring...

    Spray

The instructions we had, which I assume filtered down from The FA, was that the spray is not allowed outside of the professional game. So, to answer your question - No.

    Junior/Youth Abusive assistant manager

I missed the bit where the OP says the manager was dismissed, so I humbly apologise to all concerned for my frailty. I will face the wall for a few minutes and think about what I've done.

    Junior/Youth Abusive assistant manager

Jack, stick that in a report to the league. That sort of behaviour is poor in front of young players should be dealt with, especially if it also involves a young referee (if you are such). Not sure if it warrants a report to County, but James Lisher could advise if you give him a call.

    A-league grand final controversial penalty

Looks like a fair decision on replay, but don't see the referee on the video so can't comment if he had a credible view to give it. Just because it was a penalty on replay, doesn't mean he should have given it if he had no clear view. So, penalty - yes, has he seen it? - not sure.

    Another one bits the dust

Here in E.London/Essex the big issue is the timing of the rain. For the past two weekends it has rain heavily overnight on Friday into Saturday, and the same thing is forecast this weekend. It then is fairly dry Sun to Thurs, so massively frustrating. I've lost my last 3 games, and am...

    Footless Socks and LOTG

Seen these things on pro players for a few seasons now, but they are starting to appear at grass-roots. If you are not aware, these are socks cut off around the ankle (there's probably a word for them), under which the player wears another pair of Trosox socks. I'm noticing that a lot of these...

    Reversing a throw-in

@Joe The referee was correct, as on both occasions he indicated that the throw had been taken from the incorrect place, and as per the LOTG he awarded the throw to the opposition. At grass-roots level it is normal for a referee to manage the player through voice or hand gestures (!), e.g. "Back...

    Assistant abused

You shouldn't let dissent go unnoticed, but it's the referee's call as to what sanction he imposes. Whether the assistant feels insulted is, unfortunately, irrelevant. A direct F-off to me is always at least a caution, so a direct F-off to my assistant would be exactly the same. In many games...

    Referee's "Club Marks"

But it's only a part of the process. L5 -4 is only relevant if you have less than 5 assessments. L4 promotion/demotion - it is half of the criteria, and if you have half-decent assessments you will never be demoted regardless of club marks. Just trying to clarify for those not aware of the...

    Anyone know this London referee?

Don't start that debate off again...

    Referee's "Club Marks"

I love it, I was in the Top 3 in my league last season, so the clubs are obviously getting something right. Possibly my post-match schmoozing helps....actually in all seriousness, I am willing to have a chat through some decisions post-game and I know this is always appreciated by the manager...

    Eventful game back

I've just re-read your original post. I think it is superbly written, and the overall language and tone says a lot about your confidence and competence. I don't know your overall level of experience, but you sound like me and a lot of other refs who, early on in the career, get a feeling of...

And what's wrong with a Mondeo?

I worked for Ford for 14 years, until 2008 and they made some decent cars. I had a lot of company cars as I was in the management team and the Mondeos I had were superb. There's a lot of badge snobbery going on, and all makes have their good and bad points. I was until recently into older...

Determining Time Added On (additional time)

Get hold of a Casio RFT, if you forget to restart it there is background counter that keeps going. Saved me a few times that one.
