    Grassroots is dying

Which ultimately is a sad indictment of the FA, who are absolutely loaded. There’s no reason the CFA’s should be under-resourced, though I accept that they are and it’s not necessarily their fault.

    My First Match day coach

That’s great to hear. I guarantee you’ll feel more confident, and be a better referee, going forward.

    Grassroots is dying

I agree with much of that, but at youth (U14 to U18) level I’d still say 80% plus of games are, for the most part, a pleasure to ref and be part of. I admit I live in a rural area and if I have games involving teams from my nearest major towns and cities - Southampton & Portsmouth - and you...

    Grassroots is dying

I have sympathy with you @Doug - I’ve been through a roller coaster myself lately. In short: 1. Two Open Age Sunday League games to start the season. Both with renowned, challenging teams - both games I had decent to pretty good games. I’ll be honest - didn’t ace either but still felt a better...

    My First Match day coach

I've had two MDC visits and two "informal ones" when middling with higher-level, far more experienced referees as ARs, and they've been brilliant - feedback and development points were incredibly valuable. They were all minor, but have made a big difference to my refereeing - things like not...

    RefStuff flags

I bought this version as they were on special offer last year via Amazon, but essentially they're exactly the same as the ones you're looking at, just with the additional scoring section at the bottom. They're great flags - sturdy, don't become tangled, come with a spare set of flags and the...

    Coping after a match

I've never heard someone express this but after my first few weeks of the Sunday League season I think you're spot on. Had two tough games involving three teams with reputations for being unpleasant enough and tough to control when things don't go their way, and ultimately I've decided to knock...

    Sunday mornings eh?

I've been refereeing for far less time than you @Kes but I made the same decision yesterday. Two challenging games to start the season and whilst I'm completely unaffected by it, never felt in danger and always felt calm and authoritative, I came off yesterday and concluded it's just not worth...

    Offside decision

I don't think you'd need worry about the decision - clearly offside for me as the player makes an obvious action to play the ball with impacts the keeper's ability to play (ie save) it. Easy enough to see on a film but very good decision in the moment.

Junior/Youth Discussing referee decisions on the sideline as a coach

Should obviously read “I think that sets a very poor example…”

Junior/Youth Discussing referee decisions on the sideline as a coach

As a former coach and now simply a referee who occasionally gets to watch his 13yo play (and am inevitably the CAR when I do, so don’t get to watch him much anyway!) I understand the frustrations that can arise from genuinely poor refereeing (as opposed to decisions that are debatable). It’s...

    CHE vs FUL

Interesting early-season case for The FA. Robinson isn't being abusive or implying bias, and I accept he's posting solely an opinion, but there's a prima facie case of a breach of his opinion - however honestly held - is in breach of E3: "A Participant shall at all times act in the best...

Wider elaboration on why PGMOL has come out and said it was an error - as others on here have said it's the intervention of VAR that's wrong, not whether or not it was a foul - VAR Review: As @Big Cat has previously said, this whole incident is football in a nutshell: Technically it's a...

    Refereeing Shortage in Germany

I'd have a good read through Ian Plenderleith's blog first! It's a shame he stopped reffing as I loved reading his blog. https://refereetales.blogspot.com/

    New starter in uk

In Wiltshire and Hampshire you'd be given a list detailing all the leagues (kick off times, fees, contacts) and have to contact them yourself.

    Utd v villa

I'd imagine any grassroots referee is giving this as a foul because in real time it looks like he's dislodged the ball from the goalkeepers control, and outside of some whinging and complaining from the attacker I doubt there'd be much debate.

    Season review 24/25

Year three and first full year of Open Age. As others who are in the first few years of their refereeing journey have said, I've come on so much as a referee over the course of the season, and even when I drop an occasional clanger or have an especially challenging game, I'm much better...
