In my area the youth football and referee associations have worked well to control the wearing (or non wearing) of glasses in youth football. The local youth association has made it very clear to teams that standard prescription glasses are not allowed. Only sports glasses are allowed and these...
I posted a similar question about one of my games back in September last year. Some days, despite your best efforts, nothing goes right at all and it's just a relief to get to the final whistle and head home as quickly as possible. I'm sure you'll nail your next game.
I'd be very surprised if the manager took it any further and if he did I'd be even more surprised if anything came of it. Most leagues work on the basis that teams accept the referee they are allocated (and conversely that referees take the appointments given). Appointment secretaries have a...
I've no argument with wither the penalty of sending off.
For the penalty Lacazette made a mess of the shot but the challenge is high and so late it will probably be on next week's MOTD highlights.
Lamela raised his arm to a position where he should reasonably have expected the opponents head...
I recall a Saturday afternoon refereeing at the local parks where there were 4-5 games. Myself and a fellow referee who'd done one of the other matches were getting changed when a team manager barged in accusing the other referee of all sorts of bias against his team. Turned that the other...
I've seen plenty of photographs of myself in action and depressingly I don't come across as the finely tuned athlete I imagine myself to be so I'll stay clear of videos. I must admit that I didn't watch your video but I'd be rather terrified to assess my performance in such detail. I do review...
I bet the first blue player to shoot (and hit the post) wished the referee had been in the way of his shot so he had an excuse for such a horrendous miss.
Did he miss a second yellow early in the clip? He waves a yellow card at Red No 3 (around 40 seconds in) but then a yellow player comes across apparently indicating that it was his second booking. Referee seems to check his book and issues a straight red to Red No 3. I appreciate the card...
I wasn't sure if he meant 1 minute left to play or 1 minute for the dismissed players and officials to disappear to wherever it is he wanted them to go. Later in the same phase of discussion he looks at his watch and says '30 seconds'.
There's a lot to take in here. For the first two red cards it looked like players involved just talked themselves into it by saying something the shouldn't have. Maybe the best course of action at that point would have been to get the free kick taken and the game underway again.
Everybody who has ever played football, myself included, has been told this but have you ever seen a player at any level of football pay any attention to it?
Some good advise given already. This can be a tricky call and I find instinct plays a big part in the decision. If it doesn't surprise/shock me that a player is trying to head the ball in a particular scenario then I would tend to favour the header over the kicker. By same rationale it shouldn't...
Soon after qualifying as a referee I realised that availability was important to progress up through the levels and so, due to the nature of my job, was never going to be for me. That's not to say it can't be done - I know at least one Grade 1 referee who has an extremely demanding job. I'm not...
Definitely not too old, a lot of people take up refereeing in their 30s. How far you go up the ladder depends on your ability and commitment but must important thing is that you enjoy it and find a level you are happy with.
Not quite, in current COVID times everyone disappears pretty quickly without hanging around to exchange niceties. However, no complaints so I'm reasonably happy.
After last weeks call off I did get a game this weekend and although another niggle match I was much happier with my performance. The niggle was evident from kick off but I started strongly and issued a couple of early cautions which were technically correct but which I might have let go in the...
